As you all may know I was working for Corporate America before I began my own business. I came to a point in my career that I was struggling to figure out what I should do next. One of my dearest friends and colleagues introduced me to a book, “Now, Discover Your Strengths” by Marcus Buckingham & Donald O. Clifton, Ph.D. This book allowed me to capitalize on my strengths. It was an excellent tool for me because it allowed me to match my strengths to my role at work, home and in my community. The book showed me how:
You identify your strengths by looking at a combination of your talents, knowledge, and skills. Your strengths are something you can do consistently and with predictability. You can identify your talent by monitoring your behavior and feelings over an extended period. Look at the activities that you enjoy doing as well that make you feel happy and good about yourself. You can always take the online test that the book offers www.strengthfinder.com to help you further identify your strengths.
The book also spoke about managing your weaknesses. You can have a weakness in a skill, a knowledge or a talent. As you go through life at work, home or in your community by identifying your weaknesses you can focus more on your strengths as well as pairing up with colleagues and friends that strengths are your weaknesses.
As you identify your strengths you will be able to use your strengths to improve yourself and those that you manage on your team. I hope that you take the test and learn your strengths and it will help you as it has helped me. Please continue to stay safe and practice social distancing. Would love to hear from you!
