As I sit here and write my last blog of the year, I reflect and look at all the hardship we have all endured. Makes you wonder if people knew what was to happen in 2020. Remember the Back to the Future film and Doc's advice to Marty was, "Whatever happens Marty, don't go back to 2020." Wish you can just go back to the future and do things differently? Yes, it has been a difficult year for many of us as we have dealt with, the feeling of uncertainty with the virus, people losing their jobs, hearing more and more about illnesses, and having empty seats at the table due to the loss of a loved one that has left us. All we can do is stay positive and move forward and live every day like it is our last. Remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I feel this way on a personal note as well as professionally.
I want to share with you something personal. Many of you know that I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer back in 2017. I had just started my own business as a Consultant and was able to go through chemo treatments, still work and was able to fight the disease. This past September I learned that it came back and spread to other parts of my body. I am now fighting Metastatic Breast Cancer. The good news is that there are many types of medication out there to put me in remission. If one doesn't work they we try another. Doctors now treat Metastatic Breast Cancer as a Chronic Disease like Diabetes and Heart Disease. You live with the disease the rest of your life. When I was first diagnosed, I cried every day and always thought to myself why me? I come to realize I am strong and hope to educate and motivate others as I go through this journey. God knows I can handle this and keep moving forward. I have the Blessed Mother and my Guardian Angels by my side along with a great support system through my family and friends. I want to be that person that will beat the odds and I will. I have too much to do! I don't have time to be sick. I am continuing to work and grow my business and as a matter of fact have some exciting stuff coming at MCA Consulting in 2021.
Yes, 2020 has giving all of us many challenges but things are having a better outlook. We now have a vaccine and once that starts getting distributed, we will be able to fight this virus head on. Many of our small businesses are still struggling and many have had to shut down their doors. Please find the down time to explore other possibilities. Those small businesses that pivoted their business quickly are the ones that are still around. Find your passion, reinvent yourself, brainstorm and that bright idea will come to you. During this time, I found comfort in writing. I would have never known that if it wasn't for the pandemic. Don't just sit back and let this tragedy bring you down. Find a way to get back in the game. It may even be something you never imagined. Keep moving forward. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and 2021 is coming so go into it with a positive attitude and make those changes. Nothing will change if you don't do anything about it. I would love to share with you my favorite prayer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. My wish to all of you is that may the Holiday Season end the present year on a cheerful note and make way for a fresh and bright New Year.
